It is the rare night I fall asleep before turning a few pages of a book. So, I was quite surprised to find myself immersed in Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache novels, all 18 of them. Knowing that I would not run out of books, no matter how many sleepless nights I might be facing, calmed me. Returning to my Louise Penny mystery that night, I realized that perhaps it was the memory of those lonely nights from my childhood that kept me from reading mystery books. The women physicians who took care of me are a stunning reminder of how the world has changed since my childhood.

For 11 months of the year, Tim LeBel is Mars Wrigley's president of sales. The National Retail Federation predicts consumers will spend $3.6 billion on Halloween candy this year, up from $3.1 billion last year, even as many shoppers pull back spending elsewhere. Unlike Hershey, family-owned Mars doesn't report its financial results, but disclosed nearly $45 billion in annual revenue in 2021. With the stakes so high for Halloween, Mars starts planning for the holiday two years in advance. "A lot of those things take two years to develop and execute to bring to market," LeBel told CNBC.

PARIS, June 10 (Reuters) - Pressure will be immense on Sunday when Novak Djokovic faces Casper Ruud in the French Open final with a record-breaking 23rd men's Grand Slam title and his position in the pantheon of tennis at stake. In 2021, Djokovic was on the brink of completing a calendar slam -- winning all four majors in the same year -- but was beaten in straight sets in the final in New York by Daniil Medvedev. "You remember the U.S. Open final he had with Medvedev after beating me in the semis still. "I put myself in another really ideal position to win a Grand Slam," said Djokovic, who will also snatch the world number one spot from Spain's Alcaraz if he lifts the Musketeers Cup. With the fickle French Open crowd often backing the underdog, Djokovic might face a few jeers, but he could not care less.

"The first set and the second set were really, really intense and I started to cramp in my arm. Djokovic will play in his 34th Grand Slam final, his seventh at Roland Garros where he has lifted the Musketeers' Cup twice, in 2016 and 2021. With Mike Tyson watching from the stands, both players traded punches and Djokovic was on the ropes in the second set, with Alcaraz playing several spectacular shots. "Towards the end of the second set he was the better player. He's going for Grand Slam number 23 and I'm going for my first, so there's a big difference."

Dec 28 (Reuters) - Rafael Nadal is hoping that playing in the United Cup will give him the confidence boost he needs as he looks to defend his Australian Open title next month after being plagued by injuries in 2022. After winning four titles in the first six months of 2022, it was a case of more pain than gain for Nadal since he hoisted the Musketeers' Cup for a record 14th time in June. "My main goal now is to regain positive feelings on the court and to be competitive, and I hope to do that. I'm ready to do it, but we'll see," Nadal told a news conference on Wednesday. "Right now I'm just focused on having a competitive level.. on playing at the highest level possible and being competitive and fighting for everything."
Former Trump advisor Tom Barrack is charged with illegal lobbying on behalf of the UAE. In testimony on Monday, the billionaire reportedly said Trump was "disastrous" for his business. The billionaire has been charged with illegally lobbying the Trump administration on behalf of the United Arab Emirates between 2016 and 2018. Barrack was charged in July of last year and his trial began earlier this month. A day before the testimony, Trump took to Truth Social to support Barrack, calling him a "highly respected businessman" who is "being unfairly persecuted."
Elon Musk deleted a series of tweets about Ye's Parler purchase. If Musk and Ye close their deals, all three men will have their own social media sites. Earlier this month, the Tesla CEO dubbed Trump's social media site a "right-wing echo chamber" that might as well be called "Trumpet." Much like Truth Social, Parler is smaller than Twitter and caters toward a conservative userbase. The conservative social media platform first came into the spotlight in 2021 after the siege on the US Capitol when users took to the social-media platform to post violent content.
Nearly seven decades after her first film, she was awarded an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement at age 88 in November 2013. "I feel really undeserving of this gorgeous chap," Lansbury said, referring to the golden Oscar statuette she was given. "Not since the heyday of Bette Davis had there been an actress of this range and accomplishment," wrote critic David Shipman. Lansbury was born in London in 1925 and went to the United States in 1940 to avoid the war with her mother, actress Moyna McGill, who appeared in several Hollywood films. Lansbury, who lived in Los Angeles, married actor Richard Cromwell in 1945 but the union lasted less than a year.
Lansbury also amassed 11 Emmy nominations for her role as Jessica Fletcher in “Murder, She Wrote,” but never won.
